Redirecting blocked URLs does not work reliably

Open Matthysse opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

When using a custom DNS Phone-wide, some websites can be blocked. I wanted to still access the goal website contained in a particular tracking url coming from an app. I managed to make it work using a rule that redirects to the goal website while still avoiding the tracking. The problem I have is that sometimes and totally randomly, the redirect does not work and I just see that « Safari does not find the webpage ». In this situation, I have to manually close Safari and go back to it to be redirected correctly.

@Matthysse It should be a bug. Sorry for any inconvenience. I have a few questions to dive into it deeper:

  • Given Safari shows the Safari does not find the webpage error page, what happens when you refresh the page with the menu bar > View > Reload Page?
  • Do you basically input the original URL directly to the address bar? Or do you open it through a link displayed on another webpage on Safari?
  • When the issue happens, do you actually need to close Safari? Or is just closing the tab and reopening it in another tab enough?

Hi @Matthysse, I recently resolved a major crash issue, and it could also fix your issue. I hope you'll give it another try.

I'll close this issue later if there are no more replies, but please feel free to reopen it anytime. 🙂

Hello, sorry for not answering to the first message. Reloading the page does indeed nothing. For this example, I click on links that are opened by another app but it switched to the safari app. And yes I really need to close safari, closing the tab does not solve the issue.

I tried to update but I still have the same issue sadly.

@Matthysse No problems! Thanks for the details. I think I succeeded in replicating your issue now using 1.1.1.1 for Families. At least I encountered a weird behavior.

I believe opening a link from another app is the key. Thanks for the information! I’ll look into it further.
