TOOL0 needs 1k pull-up

Open stawiski opened this issue 5 years ago • 9 comments

Hi,

First of all, this is a great tool Maksim. Good job 👍

I had some trouble getting it to work, which after some debugging turned out to be hardware issue. I'm using mode 3 (single wire UART). The TOOL0/P40 signal needs to be pulled-up on the RL78 side - 1kOhm to VDD. I'd indicate that on the hardware diagram image you included in the repo, so it's clearer.

Cheers

Hi @stawiski

I agree, 1k pull-up is mandatory, but it belongs to the device itself, not to a flasher. I draw connection diagrams from the flasher perspective, this is why pull-ups on TOOL0 and RESET were omitted, since they should be present on all designs even without a flasher connection option.

Great idea to extend diagrams with theis information. Thanks!

Regards, Maksim.

I NEED scheme for this

anctech avatar Jun 09 '20 13:06 anctech

Hi @anctech The software should work with any UART interface (either COM-UART or USB-UART) that is connected to an RL78 MCU as shown in any schematic for development boards. E.g.: page 68 with jumpers set to OCD https://www.renesas.com/us/en/doc/products/mpumcu/doc/rl78/r01uh0243ed0000.pdf?key=7c9d634aedc248466a442c56bef76bc9

Also you can look at the following schematic, but keep in mind that TOOL0 and RESET signals on RL78 side need 1k pull-ups rl78s-hw.png

@anctech BTW, there is no command to read firmware from an RL78 using the standard bootloader.

@anctech

FTDI FT232RL works with this software. With RFP you are on your own. I have not tried it ever.

I Will try tomorrow and give you result
