command line spammed with newlines at the start of vim

when this plugin is installed, if you try typing a command too quickly the menu becomes spammed with newlines not breaking or anything but mildly annoying

This doesn't happen for me, and I've been using this plugin for a week or so. It might help if you try installing the plugin with a minimal init.vim/init.lua and report the results. From your screenshot, it looks like you have other plugins, so they might be the culprits ...
