Chat replay for archived streams

Previous discussion. Recap: basically need some kind of EDL and the start time.

Axehand speculations:

  • Info from the MAGfest panel: it's a Ruby script that takes the unedited stream recording and a text file with scene transition timestamps in it and uses ffmpeg to cut out the splash screens and the commercials.
  • Based on its name I think it doesn't reencode the video and just copies the bitstream. That comes with a limitation that it can only jump to I-frames which Twitch says must happen every two seconds.

I looked at a recent LRRMtG stream and the cuts seem looser than the keyframes would allow. If the videos aren't further edited then I think we could use Axehand's timestamp file and at the end of a stream with two commercial breaks be out of sync by about twenty seconds which I think is acceptable.
