A Big Thank You

Hello dear,

A big thank you for writing this script. To speed up the process I ran this script on two tabs (One tab pointing latest photos, and other pointing to old photos) with the zoom level set to 20% :P , which runs fine on Firefox.

Deleted 100GB of photos

I also want to thank the developer @mrishab! I deleted more than 800 gb in Photos (almost 175 thousand photos) and you saved me a lot of work!

Another big thanks for this tool! Google removing the delete feature from their API is incredibly user hostile. Hacking around that by automating the browser actions is such an elegant way to retake control of our own data.

@adarshahd great call on having the script work from the front and back. I did this by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the main Photos view before activating the script. It's working great.

I also DNS blocked lh3.googleusercontent.com during the operation by editing /etc/hosts. Safari required that I go into the prefs and delete all of the website data for googleusercontent.com for this DNS block to take effect.

Was going to report that it works fine on Firefox since It states it wasn't tested on other browsers besides chrome but then saw this issue, so decide to reinforce it here instead of opening a new one. It works perfectly on Firefox 141.0

And also to add: Thanks for the great automation.

working beautifully in chrome on osx - there's an uncaught error in the promise ("RpcError: Not found") but it doesn't seem to matter. Thanks +1

Thank you very much. It's crazy to me that Google only allows you to delete YOUR OWN pictures by using a script like that. One more reason to self host my photos.

Thanks!

I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to everyone who made this tool possible. Without it, I would have spent weeks or even months trying to manually empty my Google Photos library. This script has saved me an incredible amount of time and frustration.

It’s honestly disappointing that a company as advanced as Google still doesn’t offer a proper “select all” or bulk-delete feature for Photos. Forcing users to delete hundreds of gigabytes of images one by one feels unreasonable — and, in my opinion, probably sits in a grey area under GDPR and user rights.

Many users like me end up in a desperate situation: either delete the entire Google account (and lose Gmail, Drive, etc.) or spend endless hours trying to remove personal data manually.

I really appreciate the open-source community stepping in where the platform itself fails. Thanks again to the developers and contributors! 🙏

ChatGPT PlusThank you @mrishab for this amazing script. I’m finally breaking free from Google and taking back control of my data. Your initiative is brilliant. I hated feeling forced to pay for more storage; I’ve already moved all my emails to a local folder using KMail/Outlook and won’t rely on “free” services anymore, except for email. Next step: linking WhatsApp to a separate Gmail. Truly inspiring work!
