Allow user to change the background (color/image/gradient) and make resizing the styling element more discoverable

It would be great if I can customize the background and see my element on the desired background. I would also prefer to be able to resize the element to the exact width and height using a resize (transform) menu with input fields rather than just resizing it with the mouse.

Hello Aziz! Thanks for the bug-report! Changing the background is definitely a future goal to implement (think of a layer sidebar on the right) For now there is already a solution to work with: you can drag-and-drop images into layerstyles to use them as background images. And you can also pick the colors of said background images.

Resize is already implemented (though buggy sometimes) - the handler is in the bottom right corner of the element. I also though about a direct width&height input - do you think this level of precision would be needed or is mouse-resizing enough?

Thanks for quick response. I've tried the drag and drop to change the background image and it's great. The problem I noticed is that a lot of great features you implemented are not easily discoverable. A short help menu on the corner with a little bit of documentation would help designers/coders find out faster about these little things (resizing or setting the background image). On the long run, I would love to see more Photoshop like UIs for resizing and dealing with background colors and images.

It's a busy week for me but I hope I can fork your wonderful project this weekend and contribute little things here and there.

thank you! that would be great to have a first contributor! you're absolutely right about the discoverability. I just also had a pretty busy week and no time yet to improve on it.

I still prefer to be able to resize the element to the exact size. my suggestion is having something like the below screenshot from PS on the top PS
