Does this work with Win 7?

Thanks

mpv and libmpv don't support Windows 7 anymore, nothing mpv.net can do for this. Maybe you can try older build.

https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv?tab=readme-ov-file#system-requirements

A not too ancient Linux, Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.15 or later.

mpv.net depends on mpv, and when mpv doesn't run on Windows 7, so does mpv.net.

2023-12-15 20_44_43-mpv net Same here, mpv.net 7.0.0.3 doesn't run on Windows 7x64

I can update to .NET 8 then.

Does this work with Win 7?

Yes, but you need to make it work. https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1994994#post1994994

Older Beta, 7.0.0.1 & 7.0.0.2 do work, but more recent do not. https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1995227#post1995227

So, to recap what was on doom9 forum:

  • mpv.net works on windows 7 (as of current latest v7.1.1.0), but needs libmpv-2.dll to be replaced with the older one.
  • The latest working libmpv-2.dll build is from 2023-09-17 (commit hash 181eddc), the x86-64 variant (as opposed to x86-64-v3, which also doesn't work). Download link.
  • In the diff between this build and the next one there are mentions of new cplugin system, and changes in Windows build process are recommended - it mentions setting MPV_CPLUGIN_DYNAMIC_SYM but it is nowhere to be seen in the build scripts. I don't see any other groundbreaking changes.

I can update to .NET 8 then.

Using VxKex allows mpv.net, as well as vanilla mpv, to work on Windows 7. image Upgrading to .NET 8 would break this workaround.

Thanks, mickle-bond, vxiiduu and the rube. I'll give the various suggestions a try out to see if it works with Win 7.

harryray33 avatar Mar 15 '24 17:03 harryray33

@harryray33 yes, I tried VxKex, seems to work for me too. The setting didn't persist when I updated the mpvnet.portable with Chocolatey though.

@shirt-dev thanks for the great paste, really good stuff, very like scrolling past it.

Mikle-Bond avatar Mar 16 '24 02:03 Mikle-Bond

That's it, it's over, mpvnet has been hijacked by less than 1% of Windows 7 cavemen and can no longer keep up. Where are our Windows 98 Cambrian creature friends? Please feel free to showup and demand that mpvnet rollback to an eight year old build to support Windows 98.

Andarwinux avatar Mar 25 '24 05:03 Andarwinux

@mikle-bond @vxiiduu

I had a look at VxKex, seems like a good idea, but I got over 30 hits on it from Virustotal.

harryray33 avatar Mar 25 '24 06:03 harryray33

Is VxKex safe to use?

harryray33 avatar Apr 05 '24 15:04 harryray33

@harryray33 well, my PC didn't blow up in the past month of using it. So, I'd say it is exactly as safe as using a discontinued OS itself.
