Mpv can't display black

Open vertexgamer opened this issue 6 months ago • 5 comments

mpv Information

Latest build https://github.com/shinchiro/mpv-winbuild-cmake/releases/download/20250606/mpv-x86_64-gcc-20250606-git-6b178e4.7z

With the default config or vo=gpu mpv can't display a truly black frame.
I already did extensive testing, NO it's not my monitor NO it's not windows.
I advise you to buy an oled monitor and test this in a pitch black environment to clearly see the issue.

Other Information

Windows 10
nvidia gpu with the fucking bugged drivers 576.40
the output to the monitor is 10bit rgb full range, the monitor and windows are running in sdr mode

Reproduction Steps

stop a video with a black frame or load a black image in mpv

Expected Behavior

see actual black

Actual Behavior

slightly raised blacks

Log File

not gonna post a log, this is not required

Sample Files

No response

I carefully read all instruction and confirm that I did the following:

  • [x] I tested with the latest mpv version to validate that the issue is not already fixed.
  • [x] I provided all required information including system and mpv version.
  • [x] I produced the log file with the exact same set of files, parameters, and conditions used in "Reproduction Steps", with the addition of --log-file=output.txt.
  • [x] I produced the log file while the behaviors described in "Actual Behavior" were actively observed.
  • [x] I attached the full, untruncated log file.
  • [x] I attached the backtrace in the case of a crash.

If you have an OLED, try setting --target-contrast=inf
