What do the Ambilight settings actually do?

Most of them are self-explanatory, but I have problems understanding "Value", "Saturation" and "Bias". I guess Saturation is a factor that effects the saturation of the bulbs, but then why it it under Thresholds and not Color? And what is "Threshold" actually?

For example, for my taste the algorithm is too sensitive for colors which are barely noticeable in the image und I want it to favor the main color more. How can I do that?
