[Request] Associate simpletask with text-files

Open durcheinandr opened this issue 8 years ago • 11 comments

Opening the todo.txt-file from other applications like file managers doesn't show the option to open with Simpletask. Is it possible to add Simpletask as a text-editor?

Note that this is only easy if the starting intent has a file:// URI. If it comes with a content:// URI its requires more work. This also only makes sense with the cloudless version.

hi, any progress on this?

i am using the f droid version i think is the cloudless version.

choosing file from the "open file location" is hard as that UI is less optimum if compare to professional file choosers from say esuper/ES file manager etc.

it's been a long time since...

thanks

5 years, i love commercial software more!

A silly and inappropriate note. I am sad that simpletask has lagged in its development but despite that it remains the best implementation of the todo.txt system on any platform, and there is no commercial software.

a simple feature wont be added for 5yrs, and yelling comes after 15mins. I'll rather work hard for several hours/days and got a commercial one instead, may be hire someone to fork the project and add the feature?

how many "5 years" you have?

docfetcher added a pro version, and the income from that paid pro version could drive the bug fix of the free version, that's the way I am ok with.

It's not the opening of the file and the file association which is dificult. It's the writing back of any changes after that which is challenging.

With respect, I would like to clarify that I appreciate the author's work for simpletask, it's 9x % perfect.

I am just challenging the idea of FOSS.

I work in the medical field, i am glad the commercial defibrillators, CT and MRI machines provide functions more than we use everyday. And I doubt anything like FOSS mode could survive in the medical field.

There are some FOSS that deal with money (donations, subscriptions etc, on the other hand, supported by big companies) that could provide man power/expertise to make the product reasonablely acceptable ~~99% perfect~~. I'll prefer that way. @aubreyz is correct in some way that simpletask is already far better than many competitiors.

@ccchan234 - may apply to MRI but in the realm of pharmaceuticals it has been a disaster. We have ended up with a commercially led scientific literature that is riddled with fraud, and scientific journals that are fit only for the bin. The issue is more complex - and there is nothing stopping you donating $20,000 to the author. For 2 Centuries, the only (or nearly the only) relevant science in medicine has been FOSS, with money advancing a few of the best ideas.

IMO FOSS or Commercial is an inclusive or. Both have their places. For a lot of FOSS projects the alternative is nothing at all because there is no real money to be made.
