Provide general feedback on Primer 2: How to Open Your Data
Primer 2 Looking specifically for feedback on:
- anything terms or concepts that aren't clear
- typos
- how the primer flows from beginning to end
- is there something missing from the primer you think should be added?
- suggestions for additional resources at the end
- suggestions for readings and / or real-life examples to be used in the primer to drive home concepts
Creating a data Read-Me At first, we should mention the objective / context of the data collection. This mention would answer to the question "Why" data collection At the end, in a single read me text, we would have answer to Why, what, who, when ,Where And How.
To stress on what zied suggested, the "why" would further enhance data exploitation and reuse
I went back and forth on that when we first came up with the W&H questions (What, Who, etc.) but I like your reasoning. I pulled back from it only because I was challenged by coming up w/ short simple questions folks could answer to address that. I've added a section "0" before section "1" and labeled it Data Purpose. Would you like to take a stab at fleshing that out in the same style of the following sections?
Super !
I'll be leading a discussion tomorrow with UofTcoders on opening up scientific data and thought it would be interesting to see the progress being made on these primers. The material in the repos has been super useful so far but was wondering if the primer on drive is any different. This is also just a heads up that I requested access to read the primer on drive. :)
Hi Derek! I'm sorry I didn't see this before your discussion! We have Primer 1 up in the gitbook so aren't using the drive version anymore for edits. You can find it here: https://mozillascience.github.io/open-data-primers/index.html Primer 2 is in the process of being put up there, as well. It's current drive version is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14VLfWF7BaGzmOUWR7fwbZDZPMaxuoK4rgvI5JX0ICYc/edit?usp=sharing Here's the link to Primer 3: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1xLddNFPeSJu8jCJfyqI7o29dVSaJzsqdfUpvhOXodd0/edit?usp=sharing The access permissions for the primers are currently set to anyone w/ link can comment.
