Update Open Sans font to its version 3.0
This should let us drop the workaround added in #2869.
Hi All! I found this issue and found that it might be interesting. I have downloaded the open sans version 3 from this link https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Open+Sans but it was in the format of .ttf so I used https://products.aspose.app/font/conversion/ttf-to-woff2 to convert it into woff2 but I am not sure if this is how it is meant to be done.
I have uploaded the new woff2 file for the bold font so you can check for yourself and if it is all right with you all I would be happy to do the same for the rest to update it. The opensans bold file after converted into woff2
For a few hints for how to proceed (including a link to a different preferred tool), see #2861.
Evaluating the update is rather difficult with just a font file; it'd be easiest to have a PR that also drops the italic backtick workaround.
Hi @eemeli thanks for your hint! I have done the conversion using the preferred tool only for:
- Bold
- Italic
- Light
- Regular That should be all right?
Also, for the second point I don't think I Follow, do you want me to replace all the three files only and then start a PR? Or is there any more changes I should be wary of?
The way this ought to work is that you replace the .woff2 files that were added in #2861 with their updated versions, and then remove the hack added in #2869, and then we can check that the backtick works as expected. I'm not sure if the font has changed otherwise, so it may turn out that only the italic file needs updating.
Open Sans hasn't been part of Mozilla's branding for a few years already.
@fitojb We use Open Sans because its character repertoire covers several alphabets with a wide range of diacritics.
Inter doesn't?
