Cannot reorder the container position on wayland.

Open LucasGGamerM opened this issue 9 months ago • 7 comments

Before submitting a bug report

  • [x] I updated to the latest version of Multi-Account Container and tested if I can reproduce the issue
  • [x] I searched for existing reports to see if it hasn't already been reported

Step to reproduce

I clicked on the shortcut for the extension, then on the manage containers button, and noticed I couldn't move the items at all when on wayland.

Actual behavior

I cannot move the items.

Expected behavior

I should be able to move the items freely with my mouse by dragging and dropping.

Additional informations

Launching firefox through xwayland fixes the issue, but it shouldn't be the final solution, as wayland is more and more the main way to use any graphical application on linux.

Hm, I'm not able to reproduce this issue with my setup under Wayland. Can you provide your OS, Desktop Environment/Window Manager and Firefox version please?

Firefox 136, and I use KDE wayland on fedora

I'm using Wayland, Gnome, Debian 12 ... and it is not an option in Nightly 136.0.1a (64-bit) or Firefox 136.0.2 (64-bit).

I can reorder them in the Manage Containers part, but that really doesn't change anything.

Can't seem to find anything about it, here, either.

FWIW - ~I reckon this has come up before, @dannycolin ... I'll see if I can fish it out!~ Done, linked below.

EDIT - Oh, wait ... I might be thinking of the order that containers are presented to a user when opening a new container. Sorry, @LucasGGamerM are you talking about the order presented in the drop down and when right clicking:

... or are you talking about moving container tabs around in the tab bar?

I talk about these little guys: Image

Clicking and dragging on the hamburger menu on them does not move them on wayland, only on x11

Aha, OK, thanks, @LucasGGamerM ... that is actually different to the issue that I was thinking of.

On my system, I can confirm that I can definitely move them up and down in the 'Manage Containers' fly-out, in both Nightly and Firefox. But I am not entirely sure what good it does.

This is because, the only place where that order actually means anything is literally only the 'Manage Containers' fly-out.

One last check, Lucas ... have you tried this with and without the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option checked in Firefox? I am not suggesting that this will necessarily fix things ... but it just occurred to me whilst I was grabbing the below information.

My System

The OS is vanilla ...

  • OS: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)
  • OS Type: 64-bit
  • GNOME Version: 43.9
  • Windowing System: Wayland

Graphics Driver Versions

I have a Quadro RTX 3000 in this laptop:

  • NVIDIA Driver Version: 535.216.01
  • NVML Version: 12.535.216.01

No special settings on anything, other than a LUKS encrypted OS drive ... just to make my life hell. 😏

This is a dupe of #2705 and can be closed if the pending PR that fixes that issue is merged.

I can confirm that this is an issue on wayland. I can't rearrange containers either under "Manage containers". If I want to rearrange them, I just have to delete them and recreate them in the order I want them. Basically, start from scratch. I'm using Kubuntu 25.04 kde6 wayland. It's every firefox or firefox fork that does this. I'm using Zen right now and it does it here as well. I didn't have this issue when I was using Kubuntu 24.04 kde5 X
