Investigate opentelemetry tracing usage
This is a spike (not a task, TODO: Push Jira does not support the spike type)
I’d like to look further into tracing via opentelemetry for our systems (autopush, syncstorage). Tracing is similar in certain ways (yet different) to our reliability system.
As we finalize the implementation of the reliability system I’ll conduct a spike on familiarizing myself with what an opentelemetry integration would look like and what it could potentially provide. It’s possible it could lead to influence some of the design of our reliability system.
Could we use standard tracing to provide similar reliability statistics – probably not (as JR has already done some investigation into this last year), but I’d also like a look into this, the overall tracing systems and how they might work with our rust code bases.
