[iOS] Device status bar not legible after minimizing and reopening the app

Open data-sync-user opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

Affected versions:

  • Mozilla VPN 2.9.0 (2.202206040936);

Tested Platforms:

  • iOS;

Prerequisites:

  • Have Mozilla VPN app installed and opened;

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Minimize the app (do not swipe-kill the app);
  2. Reopen the app;
  3. Observe the status bar;

Expected result:

  • The device status bar is legible, displayed in white font.

Actual result:

  • The device status bar is not legible due to the black font of the status bar content and the purple background of the Mozilla VPN.

Notes:

  • Not reproducing if the app is not minimized or swipe-killed.

  • Swipe-killing the app or navigating to another screen solves the issue;

  • See the attached video.

Another scenario to keep in mind:

  1. Have the app open with the status bar legible
  2. Wait for the device screen to lock
  3. Unlock the device screen

Actual Result: The devices bad turn from white to black and is no longer legible

Device status bar has same issue while switching from portrait to landscape and vice-versa.

Can we re-check this one?

I verified this as fixed on iOS 17 beta running VPN 2.15.1 (iPhone 12 Pro)

Matt Lichtenstein, I am still able to reproduce this issue while using Mozilla VPN 2.16.0 (2.202307091836), on iOS 16.5 (iPhone 11), following the steps described in the issue.

The issue is also reproducing while following the steps ( https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/VPN-2387?focusedCommentId=556398 ) mentioned by Luminita.

Still reproducing with the latest 2.21 build on iOS 16.5.

This seems like something that happens on iOS 16 only. I can’t repro on iOS 17 (using the 2.21 build) but can on iOS 16 (on both 2.21 and 2.23 builds). Continuing investigation.

Verified this while using 2.24.0 (2.202406092212) build on iOS 16.7 and the issue is no longer reproducing as mentioned in the above steps.

However, if switching from portrait to landscape and vice-versa the status bar is black again.

Should we log a separate ticket for this behavior? Matt Cleinman

Good catch! Yes please, can you make a new ticket for that one? Should be an easy fix, but since this is merge we can do it under a new ticket.
