Provide option to enlarge font size

Open jaxondu opened this issue 6 years ago • 10 comments

Some site uses small fixed font which is hard to read even on 5.5 inch screen. For example Hacker News. It would be useful to provide settings to adjust the base font size, similar to what is possible on Firefox desktop. UCBrowser is one example of mobile browser that implements this feature.

Still relevant. For me it decides my browser choice in favor of safari, which I definitely don't prefer. How can this be not relevant?

Many people don’t know the font size can be increased in Safari for iOS. So, I don’t think they realize it could be an option in Firefox for iOS. Slashdot is an example of a website that is unreadable on iOS because the fonts is just too small. Pinching to zoom makes it just as hard to read as the text goes off the pages. Having a feature to resize and re-flow text on Firefox on iOS would be really helpful!

This issue makes firefox iOS unusable on ipad and iphone. Most website text is show too small to read comfortably.

I am not going to pinch zoom and float through pages of documentation or articles.

Its back to safari until this is fixed.

I will agree. I only use safari because the font size can be adjusted to fit more content on the screen. Please prioritise this feature.

Many websites are really hard to read without being able to increase the text size, so hoping this will be implemented.

For reference, the corresponding Safari settings;

Still not implemented? I think it is very relevant

Cmd-+ on external keyboard used to do this on iPad Pro, but as of the latest release that stopped working. (In fact it is still documented in the Cmd-hold down menu, so it is clearly not intended to be removed). Please at least restore this capability for iPad/external keyboard users.

@aiyagari on which Firefox for iOS version are you? There was a bug related to keyboard shortcuts, bugfix is in v106 so before that particular version I would expect certain keyboard shortcuts to be broken.

Customer Experience team here:

We have seen 17 request for this feature dating back to June 20th.

Feature Description: It's not possible to change the font size of sites in Firefox. Users are requesting to have this as an option, especially since it is an accessibility issue.

Changing the device's font size does not affect Firefox so this can't be a workaround.

How does this improve your mobile experience? This will allow users to have a better reading experience in the mobile app.

I have opened firefox dozens of times in the last few weeks on ios and iPad, I always forget that the font is just too small to read.

Its really small! I thought the whole point of web browsers is you can flow the text through and manage all kinds of settings like font size to deliver the proper UI.

I dont have a problem reading on safari iOS, and firefox is my preferred browser, but only useable on laptop machine.

I cant be the only one, has anybody compared the display font size in testing? Very noticably smaller than other browsers on iOS.
