We need to optimize a few of these images so the app bundle doesn’t grow too large for users downloading the app / updating the app (it has been a complaint in the past).
Can we please have both optimized PNG versions and (if possible) small vector PDF versions of the assets? If all the images are rasterized and not vector based, that’s fine. In that case let’s shrink the image size to maybe 512 x 512 PNGs and apply some aggressive image optimization since the app only ever shows them at small scale.
Below I’ll give approximate guidelines for the image sizes we have with the current icons. FYI Gabrielle Lussier made these for me the first time, I’m not sure how she did it 🙂

Vector-based PDFs (used to show in the app, at a somewhat small scale): around 28 kilobytes
- If we don’t have vectors for these, let’s do aggressively optimized PNGs, shrinking the size to 512 x 512 or even lower so we can try to get these well under 100 KB.
- Note to Winnie Teichmann: These are for the .imageset

- Must be exactly 1024 x 1024 pixels

Verified on v145.3 (65247) with iPhone 15 Pro (18.7.2).
Can you please confirm this is all the new icons we will have for now? Asking because in Figma I see many more, and there are many variants ofthe App icon section and how it should look. Can you please share the final design we should follow? We are missing a few in our app if we compare it with the PR ( https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/pull/30466#issue-3599676638 ).

Hi Andrei Bodea ,Winnie Teichmann should be back to confirm on Monday. But it does look to me like we’re missing some (Cool, Cuddling). I thought maybe it was because we didn’t have translations for the newest icon names, but I think all these are behind the same flag, and the Retro ones are also new icon names. But I’ll let Winnie Teichmann confirm. 🤔

Andres Furlan could you create an experiment? Either a release experiment in case we want to release all icons to English speaking users already or a preview experiment in case we want to release the untranslated icons all at the same time once we have translations.

Winnie TeichmannIsabella please note that I’ve checked on v 146.1 (65627) with iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 18.7.2), but I couldn’t find any experiment or I couldn’t see any new icons in FF. Setting this in progress until it can be verified.

Verified as fixed on v146.1 (65627) with iPhone 15 Pro (18.7) and iPhone 16 (iOS 26). I was able to see all the mentioned icons by using this ( https://experimenter.services.mozilla.com/nimbus/ios-new-app-icons/summary/ )experiment.
