Gracefully handle "open in app" or "install from the store" (formerly: reddit.com launch in app option fails)
https://github.com/mozilla-mobile-skunkworks/firefox-connect/issues/506
Currently, we do nothing if a website requests to open in app (if that app is their app or the play store): we should consider providing feedback in some way to the user (e.g. a toast). See the original bug for further discussion.
List of affected sites:
- reddit.com
- baidu.com (after login, see https://github.com/mozilla-mobile-skunkworks/firefox-connect/issues/506#issuecomment-426807506)
- google play music #120
- pandora.com #149
There is also the webcompat approach: make it clear that not all devices have access to Google Play, including us and Fire TV, and ask web site vendors to change their approach. This is an uphill battle but it will happen organically if enough users move out of the google play ecosystem.
