GMail now fails due to no AppKey support. As of 30 May 2022/ 7 June 2022 all "less secure apps" access has been disabled by GMail. See https://github.com/motioneye-project/motioneye/issues/2522#issue-1264794161
I refused to use Gmail's MFA until forced just three days ago. After enabling MFA, I was able to go into Gmail's "App Passwords" under Sign-in & Security and get a one-time password for my MotionEye, which I promptly added and haven't missed a beat... yet.
(Account > Security > Signing in to Google > App passwords ... add your app ... I chose "Other" for "Select App", then "Other" for "Select Device" making the device name a recognizable friendly name. Click "Generate", then cut and paste the generated password into email password on MotionEye and direct MotionEye to test the email).
