Index Update Call

Great project. Is there an update mechanism for an index - adding a field, or updating index type, for example.

Ok, thanks - trying to work out a process in that case. Would I be able to add a field to its own index and add that to the aliases subsequently searched? I'm also struggling to find an example of adding or removing shards / nodes / aliases - if you could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
