Experience with Alfa AWUS036ACM

Dear Morrownr,

Thank you for your valuable datapoints! I was in the opportunity to compare the Alfa AWUS036ACM with the COMFAST CF-WU782AC MT7612UN side by side.

ALFA AWUS036ACM COMFAST CF-WU782AC
Chipset MT7612U MT7612U

Setup: Both devices in central storage point of the house. Whilst measuring one, I disabled the other. (Actually I had to because OpenWRT would sometimes flip the devices after reboot... I guess I could look at MAC but it was confusing as they are the same chipset)

Band: AC, Channel: 36

ALFA AWUS036ACM COMFAST CF-WU782AC
Bedroom FAIL 16 MBytes (Sender) / 15 MBytes (Receiver)
Table (close to router) 192 MBytes (Sender) / 189 MBytes (Receiver) 201 MBytes (Sender) / 166 MBytes (Receiver)

All and all the COMFAST was slightly faster and had better range. (bought on AliExpress for 23 EUR)

I looked at AC network only, as I am waiting for AWUS036ACHM to arrive tomorrow. Thanks again!

Hi Joop

Thank you for your valuable datapoints!

You are welcome. I get a lot of help from others and I certainly don't get everything right but I try to fix things when better information is available.

I don't have a COMFAST CF-WU782AC but have read good things about it. I do have a COMFAST CF-WU785AC and consider it a solid adapter. I also have an ALFA AWUS036ACM and an ALFA AWUS036ACHM.

Actually I had to because OpenWRT would sometimes flip the devices after reboot...

I'm curious about the specifics of your setup. You mention OpenWRT. What hardware is OpenWRT running on? Are the adapters running under OpenWRT?

I find the ALFA AWUS036ACHM to be an interesting adapter. I had used it for a while and just happened to do a comparison test at the request of a user. That is when I discovered it has really good range.

Regards

Thank you. I received my AWUS036ACHM so adding to the data below.

Location ALFA AWUS036ACM COMFAST CF-WU782AC (AC 5) AWUS036ACHM (N - 2.4)
Bedroom FAIL 16 MBytes (Sender) / 15 MBytes (Receiver) 31.8 MBytes (Sender) / 30.6 MBytes (Receiver)
Table (close to router) 192 MBytes (Sender) / 189 MBytes (Receiver) 201 MBytes (Sender) / 166 MBytes (Receiver) 58.1 MBytes (Sender) / 56.8 MBytes (Receiver)

I'm also quite amazed by the reach of AWUS036ACHM. Even outdoors I have a decent connection now.

My setup: I bought the USB devices (and found your repo) in anticipation of my arriving NanoPi R4S. For these tests I plugged them into my TP-Link Archer C2 v1.
