Possibility to mix vertical and horizontal pictures?

Do you think there is a possibility to make both horizontal and vertical sub pictures possible to be used at the same time.

I guess right now the grid algorithm just works on the basis that every image has the same size. Maybe it can be possible to support this by having rows be either fully vertical or fully horizontal I don't know, just an idea
