Sound crackling on a Steam Deck OLED (maybe a problem with the wrong buffer size?)
Describe the bug On my Steam Deck OLED I have permanent repetitive short dropouts in the game sound. Like a crackling sound. Since I come from the audio sector, the error reminds me of the behavior when the buffer size is set too low in audio software.
Steps to reproduce Behavior always occurs.
Affected games Every game is affected. The behavior also occurs on the desktop with YouTube videos or radio.
Other Moonlight clients This behavior does not occur when using MacOS or iOS on the same Sunshine server.
Moonlight settings (please complete the following information) I have tested every possible setting. Default settings, changes to the resolution, the bit rate, the number of sound channels, all possible combinations of codecs, etc.
Client PC details (please complete the following information)
- OS: tried with SteamOS 3.5.16 Preview, Beta Client and Stable Release
- Moonlight Version: tried with 5.0.1 and nightly build
Host server OS?
Host server OS?
Windows 11
Ah, not sure then - hosting on Linux here where I fixed a similar issue by setting kernel Preempt to full.
i have exactly the same issue for me it doesnt matter if i use sunshine or nvidia shield version doesnt realy matter it happens since a few years now and what makes it worse it is on the host directly
here a screenrecord via a capture card form my host machine as soon as any client connects this happens
pay attention to when the client connects and disconnects the stuttering starts and stops as long as the client is connected (android linux steamdeck and windows client cause the same problem)

Same issue for me. Tried every solution imaginable, but there's still crackling, even though video is flawless. Doesn't happen with Remote Play either.
