Stuttering when streaming on current FireTV Cube

Hello everyone,

when streaming on the current FireTV Cube, I noticed some stutterings. They appear around every 10 to 30s. In general the streaming experience is not as smooth as on other devices that I own (One Plus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, FireTV Stick 4k, Atom Mini PC).

I tested a lot of different settings and also both codecs (h264 and HEVC), but the stutterings do not go away. The experience on the h264 is a little better, but here the latency is quite high (around 25ms). On HEVC the latency is much better (around 5ms), but the stutterings seem to be appear more often.

Is there something that can be done to improve the smoothness of the streaming on the current FireTV Cube?

PS: I was streaming with the included ethernet adapter. So it cannot be a WiFi issue.

Hi @chrisipa,

On my Fire Cube I have upgraded the network adapter to a gigabit one. It helps to have a better latency.

I'm using the UGREEN USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter Hub with AX88179.

I don't have the stuffering issue but I'm not sure if upgrading from 100 mbps to gigabit will fix your issue.

I have also tested the streaming on 3 different FireTV Cubes with 3 different LAN adapters:

• The Amazon one that comes with the FireTV Cube
• UGREEN USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter
• UGREEN USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter

But this does not seem to have an impact on the micro stutters that I get while streaming. My current suspicion is that they might be related to an issue with the hardware decoders or codecs that come with the device.

Maybe I'm also a little hyper sensitive to lag or stuttering, but I can definitely notice it on the FireTV Cube. The streaming experience is not as smooth as on my other devices.
