Open it19862 opened this issue 5 years ago • 13 comments

I downloaded Download Mono 64-bit (no GTK #) from the link - https://www.mono-project.com/download/stable/ I have installed

Used:

  • Win-7x64;

Question. Where is the shortcut to launch the program?

You need to download and install GtkSharp, build monodevelop with the tutorial on the monodevelop website but keep in mind that you can't build any version that is higher to monodevelop 7 since they broke the repo by using private repos and breaking support for Windows and Linux.

After execution ended, you should have a folder named MonoDevelop.

  • Open monodevelop/main/Main.sln in Visual Studio
  • Select configuration DebugWin32 and build solution (Build -> Build solution)
  • Select MonoDevelop.Startup and press run button.

MonoDevelop should now open.

Try with monodevelop-7.8.4.1 branch.

  • Delete the monodevelop folder
  • Reopen git shell
  • Type git clone --recursive -b monodevelop-7.8.4.1 https://github.com/mono/monodevelop

and retry building.

If it doesn't work, you can continue ti go down version in tags. It should work at some point.

If installing MonoDevelop 6 is not a problem, you can install XamarinStudio 6 beta for Windows, which is a fork of monodevelop 6 and since it is an installer it will configure everything for you

I might actually not need monodevelop i though to try it since i had trouble porting with mono but i resolved the issue

https://github.com/lextm/monodevelop-windows/releases/tag/v7.8-beta1

You can use the MSI package to install on Windows.

lextm avatar Dec 17 '20 04:12 lextm

With this package, the creation of a new project does not work. There is an exception. Unfortunately, also about your fork no new build of the msi package works. For the version 7.6.9.22, it is now possible to build a package. It is available here.

Update: also for version 7.8.4

@Cataurus Your repo removed all history on the source code, which makes it difficult to reuse (as other community members are working on a fork at dotdevelop). Anyway, the 7.x versions are not the primary target to revive MonoDevelop, as 8.x introduces too many new things. If you like you can take a look at https://github.com/dotdevelop/dotdevelop/issues/33

@lextm I have modified the base so that the changes can be made. Unfortunately, the structure of this repository does not make it easy.

It is also now extended that you can build the version 7.8.4 under windows. This is also interesting for others, who first want to work into the structure of the IDE.

As I also noticed, the submodule of your repository is also no longer accessible, so that this build unfortunately can no longer be reproduced.

Unfortunately, at dotdevelop the priority is currently only on Ubuntu, as I understand it and unfortunately also takes over the overly complex structure of the repository.
