Android app

It would be great to see this wrapped up at an Android app with notifications and distributed through F-Droid. Fantastic work, thank you!

The best way to make this happen would be for Monica to have a robust API, so that someone can then build a mobile client for it.

I would gladly send some money towards the person who eventually takes this on so long as the mobile app is OSS and under a liberal license (I'm a sucker for MIT). (person or persons, of course)

Maybe using a hybrid platform such as React Native, so we can implement both Android and iOS applications at once. I can help with this kind of development.

Currently not possible though, we still have to wait until the #131 has been implemented (API).

The work for a mobile app has started now that we have the API. We'll do it ourselves, it's going to be entirely open source (we'll create a dedicated repository for it on GitHub), free of charge, iOS + Android with React Native. It's going to take, I think, a few months before it's ready, but keep a close eye on this thread, it's going to be awesome 😄

Awesome! Was just looking for this, thanks so much for working on it.

I've posted a draft of how it could look like on Dribbble.

I'll share the complete case study when we'll get there.

Now that we have a complete API (#131), it's possible to work on the mobile apps.

@djaiss When the time is right, let us know how to help!

I would like to bring up an aspect that is less obvious about an app: I don't care enough to use an app as a client (because I sit at my PC all day anyways), but I would very much like for an app to push data - both generic contact data like phone numbers and such, but mostly activity data: when did I last call person X, when did I last chat with friend Y, that kind of thing.

Having a rooted Android phone and Java experience, I'd be happy to help, but with no actual Android development experience I would need to be pointed in directions of things I could do.

@Gaibhne thanks! In my opinion you should be able to have the exact same experience on mobile and on desktop. There is two types of population and I think we should serve both, in the same manner. Moving forward, everything we'll add to mobile we'll be able to the desktop, and vice versa (at least all the features that make sense).

That being said, the mobile app is written in React Native, and so far does not have Java in it (but perhaps we'll need it for some features, I don't know yet). You can follow the development of the app on the corresponding repository, but as we are building the foundation, we don't need much help here right now. We'll need help to test this beast though.

Is there a reason why it was archived and is no longer maintained? I assume one should use the website instead?

I'd love to try out Monica, but IMO without a mobile app and automated contact/activity tracking, this product is incomplete.

There's just so much data - Contacts, calls, emails, calendars, messages - that Monica could automagically organize into a beautiful personal CRM.

Doing it all manually for hundreds of contacts is infeasible.
