Create a press answers for dummies

Open michaesc opened this issue 7 years ago • 10 comments

Press and Media

Reporters and journalists ask general questions about Monero, like 'What makes Monero different than Bitcoin?', 'Why do unsavory people like Monero so much?', or 'What is a Monero ICO?' We need a page of good answers to common press questions, like a Press FAQ.

New Document

The Press FAQ should be a one to two hour project, contributed by the most knowledgeable community members. It should:

  • [ ] Be printed on one A4 sized paper
  • [ ] Contain answers to ten to twenty questions
  • [ ] Be updated on a quarterly basis (for hardforks and events)
  • [ ] Be stored in a easy to find place (monero-project/meta/press/)

Sounds like a great idea. This is the closest material we have as far as I'm aware. This is targeted towards cryptocurrency enthusiasts and newcomers, not press though.

Agree, good idea.

Very good idea. @SamsungGalaxyPlayer we can also include the flyer and its translations so that they can get more visibility, it's veryuseful stuff, but nobody lnow they exist.

I suggest to create monero-project/meta/documentation/flyers and monero-project/meta/documentation/press. Also /documentation can be used to store in one place all useful docs that now are on various repo (revuo, localizations of various documentation, monero observer, etc.)

This probably comes down to either:

A genius (there are some of these) sitting down for an hour and working A novice reading through the website and all its downstream links for a half day ...and condensing the information massively to 10-20 questions

It might be a good place to put it (if it's formatted nicely) in the press kit area? I do like @erciccione GitHub based location ideas as well.

@SamsungGalaxyPlayer The meetup kit brochure is very good for this, it seems there are a number of sources which cover 70%-80% needs. I would not have been able to find the brochure quickly enough however, so how do we solve that problem?

@michaesc ~~I recommend a "press" (or similarly named) page under "Resources".~~ The Press Kit page is better.

If you can create a list of questions, I can come up with some content that someone else can modify to work for the website.

Another note: we should update the FAQ: https://getmonero.org/get-started/faq/

We can include questions regarding the beginning of Monero (eg: who started Monero?) and more.

We can just add new entries to the FAQ: https://www.getmonero.org/get-started/faq/. No need for a dedicated section.
