Can't run the example on WinXP using Erlang R13B04 and Ruby 1.8.7

When I run the "echo" example, here's is what I get

1> echo:test(). ** exception exit: epipe

I used Ruby 1.9.1 as well as Ruby 1.8.7 - same result. Been Googling quite a bit for the last few hours to no avail. It is most likely a "user issue", I know ;-) Cheers!
