Not playing in safari locally

I have a video file that's just local. In my stories object, I set the url: "/assets/videos/sample.mp4". It plays fine in production in all browsers, and it plays fine locally in all browsers except safari. Safari just doesn't want to load anything. I've tried all different weird hacks, but maybe someone here has come across some fix?

Safari 13.0.5 on macOS 10.15.3
