Just ran into this myself and resolved it with a workaround [over here](https://github.com/GSA/eks-brokerpak/blob/01485f9ec70e109a1e7b17de8efb3f715c9aa7a1/services/terraform/cluster.tf#L77-L145). The key bit is waiting for the Fargate profile using `depends_on` before restarting the patched `coredns` pod.
Currently this capability is limited to just team members and a few selected partners, and we're not using the private setting ourselves.
Progress being made upstream... Leaving this on the board in Blocked as a reminder to check in until the PR is released.
[Gruntwork's `cloud-nuke`](https://github.com/gruntwork-io/cloud-nuke) would be a good building block for this cleanup tool.
In the meantime, we can add checking the QA task output to the O&M role.
