Show also incompatible Extras with Info in Package Installer
Feature request
Summary
I try to install the Extra Batcher on MODX 2.8.5 and doesnt find it in the Package Installer inside MODX. This is because the Extra doenst support MODX 2.8. Sadly there is no info inside the package installer that shows that. I use it on an other site, where it is installed under MODX 2.6 and i upgrade the site after the install to 2.8. Unter PHP 7.4 it seems to work, but this is not the case here. So i was first wondering why i couldnt find it.
When i install Formalicious, there are some Subpackages like FormIt that shows an info/error when the PHP Version is not supported.
I think some logic like this, would be nice to know why some packages dont work in the current MODX, especially when using MODX3 in the future. Show nothing when there are an Extra on extras.modx.com isnt userfriendly and a little bit confusing.
Yesterday i wrote with @jaygilmore about this:
Hi Jens,
It might be nice to be able to show Extras that may not be compatible, however, that actually requires changes to Revo, not the Extras application. Revo was designed to only show the Extras that are compatible with the version you are using. Perhaps a feature request for a checkbox to show all Extras—that said, most Extras built for 3.x would not be compatible with 2.x. So, it would need at least some level of logic there. Kind regards,
Jay
Why is it needed?
Makes MODX more userfriendly and save some time to find the problem.
Suggested solution(s)
Show the Extra in the Package Installer, add a note why it isnt comaptible (i.e. PHP Version, MODX Version …) and disable the "Intall" Button.
