Activate user without automatically logging them in?

Is there a way for the activation link within the email to ONLY mark the user as active in the system, and not automatically log them in?

I would like the following workflow:

1. User registers on site
2. User receives activation email
3. User clicks on activation link
4. Activation link marks user as 'active' in the backend and redirects them to the login page
5. User logs in and is able to view members only pages
