Tag Connector Timeout breaks UI

i'm hoping we can figure out a way to fail gracefully when this happens

with 128GB RAM and about 1,727 articles in a container the tags component bombs, bc the connector chokes

+1. This is affecting one of my sites as well. We have several thousand articles and the tags connector times out. Site has 256MB memory and a 120 second PHP execution timeout.

Logs contain messages like this:

PHP Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 11681 bytes) in /usr/local/webs/newspr/htdocs/core/model/modx/modaccessibleobject.class.php on line 150
