What can we do better?
I know many friends who use Python for all of their projects and have tried explaining Mojo to many of them but the moment any of them hit modular.com or read the intro to Mojo they all instantly want to stop once they notice the phrase AI. In the modern day the term AI is a buzzword with people using it more often for clickbait or to say that they're trendy rather than actually to show its benefits. More often someone that is technically inclined will use the term Machine Learning. Using the term AI, while more recognizable than Machine Learning significantly hinders those that use Python for applications beyond simply Machine Learning from having a warm entry into Mojo. Indeed, I have noticed many developers I consider great friends shun Mojo because they see it as little more than another Machine Learning language or as a gimmicky language that's riding on the back of the recent rise in Machine Learning applications. With all this in mind I wonder if maybe Mojo should try something slightly different in branding to possibly help appeal to both sides. This may be possible with the term ML/AI as is used here or something else. I'm not the kind of person that likes changing the wording of some product branding just to make people happy but if Mojo is to succeed as a true superset of Python it also needs to have some focus on attempting to convert long time Python users who simply do not care for Machine Learning. Major caveat to all this: this is simply my opinion and that of some of my friends and a simple request to Modular, not a hate letter. I love the work y'all are doing and am so excited to continue using Mojo, I just wish that some of the stigma my friends have against it wasn't there as I know that if they had a good reason to give it a chance they would pick it up quickly and love it as well.
