Warning for age restricted content

Is your suggested enhancement related to a problem? Please describe.

Modrinth's rules have a priority to provide a safe mod repository for those who are young. This is not a bad thing!

However, there's also a sizable portion of Modrinth's users who do not need these protections.

As such, it's not preferable to be forced onto a competing platform due to their less restrictive rules. This also affects the opinions of mod authors who are affected by these restrictions.

Describe the solution you'd like

I'm not proposing that these rules be outright removed; objectively NSFW content should not be allowed on Modrinth.

However, certain mods, such as Create: Broken Bad, focus more on role-play than suggesting their users go out and make and sell meth. Could young users be influenced by the mod? Maybe? But I sure won't be. That's why:

I propose an alternative status for projects: age-restricted. This can behave similarly to how Reddit handles age-restricted posts: via a full-page warning that the user must accept before accessing the page.

Describe alternatives you've considered

If this is decided to be too lenient, these pages could also require the user to be logged in, where said user has specified their age or consented to view age-restricted pages.

Additional context

Modrinth's competetors don't even have age screening, so I'd see this as a defining feature. They just list these projects like any other, for anyone of any age to access. Age-restricted content can allow Modrinth to maintain its safe image, while also allowing less child-friendly content.

I'm not sure if this belongs here or labrinth, since this would require work on both the front and backend.

There is no implementation of age verification on modrinth and would be inconvenient to do so. Modrinth is an all-welcoming platform and it would be inconsiderate to not have age restriction. I get where your coming from, but I'm not apart of the Modrinth team, so lets see what they think! 😊

Probably a post for https://github.com/orgs/modrinth/discussions, no?

I would definitely welcome this idea though

Should we ask why they are using age restricted mods? 😳

I have no issue with moving this somewhere else! I just couldn't (easily) find anything that explicitly said where to put feature requests. Maybe something to put in the new FAQ? That's a topic for another issue though.

The mod I used as an example, in my opinion, is not a "bad" mod. The item that gets produced doesn't even have an effect; it's exclusively used for role-play. Of course there are mature mods that should not be allowed on the platform, we know what I'm referring to. But this example sits between the two sides; it's not for children, but it's not NSFW.

Ah sorry. I was typing this at like 2 AM lol so I didn't read what you wrote much. I think the best solution is to warn the user about age restricted mods and let them disable it with one click, although legal issues can quickly arise, though the platform is user generated content, all mods are still reviewed.
