always annoyed when i accidentally update a mod i dont want to, because usually my pack breaks

As a workaround, you can open a mod file using winrar and repack it to unlink from Modrinth.
This is surprising. I personally added a blank text file to the archive named "NO.UPDATE" (with "update" as the extension). This does unpair it and leaves me a reminder, but it's strange to have a way to manage this.
