add a button somewhere that allows us to change the path for a instance
Describe alternatives you've considered

I am interested in this too, for example I have folders Fabulously Optimized and Fabulously Optimized (1) and it would be nice to be able to change these to what I have it set as, in the launcher. Also, cannot even unlink and re-add these (which would be cool)
Currently wondering about directly editing the sqlite database to fix this, don't want to break it though
Until this is implemented, the easiest workaround for me has been to make a new instance with the name I want and then manually copy over the files/folders to the new instance. This is only for modpacks I've created. This method wouldn't work for downloaded modpacks that still receive updates since they wouldn't be linked.
Changing the names of instance folders has caused issues for the Modrinth app paths for over a year now. It used to go off a profile.json file per-instance and it just made things SO much easier to manage. Transferring everything to new instances under different names has been the main way I organize things, but it's gotten really difficult when I have older instances that I have 130-150+ hours in. I seriously hope there's a better solution to profile management, like being able to rename folders or transfer play time.
+1 on this, this has been bugging me off for a long time now, I can't manually change the path name without Modrinth becoming unable to find it. This cannot be overlooked.
+1 I am just realizing that I have my instance folder with spaces in the name so I can't use prettier easily when editing JSON configs and also had 300+ hours on my previous instance that I renamed and lost it all so many times
