It would be very nice to have a way to make users pay for your project, there can be a percentage taken by modrinth and the rest given to the user.

Kind of like SpigotMC's price system, it can be made so you have to pay to download the project this will bring more developers to modrinth!
According to minecraft EULA you can't sell mods. Adding this feature probably will cause a lot of lawsuits to Rinth, Inc
Not planned.
