Add an option to disable ads

Open jklussmann opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Is your suggested enhancement related to a problem? Please describe.

I really do not like to see ads anywhere on my PC and while I have the ability to block them in the browser there is no easy way to disable them in Theseus. As I am someone to never ever click on an ad they not only are just a waste of space on my monitor they also do not support modrinth or the mods creators in any way as I am not interacting with them.

Describe the solution you'd like

The best solution in my opinion would be to add a (paid for) option to disable ads. I wouldn't mind paying like 10€ to use modrinth without ads. This option would at least in my case but probably in most cases, as unintrusive ads mostly do not pay that well, also support modrinth and the developers better financially.

Ads supports authors, and modrinth goes out of their way to make their own custom solution to be the least obstructive possible. You don't need to interact with the ads for them to support creators or modrinth, just seeing it is enough.

I do agree that a modrinth subscription would be kinda neat, and I think they're working or planning that out. Adrinth pays surprisingly well, as I've made way more on Modrinth rather than Curseforge even though curse has a lot more ads

One thing that is odd about Adrinth on Theseus is that it doesn't generate us revenue if the person isn't logged into Modrinth. I don't think many people do, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that it doesn't give any revenue to us

Are you ready to buy a subscription (something like "Modrinth Plus") to don't see any ads and still support content creators? There an experiment with it at https://subscriptions.code-efh.pages.dev/plus, I think that this would solve your issue in the future.

Seems like this issue is complete just as requested with the plus subscription.
