FilamentBlock - Magnetic Gate

Open mneuhaus opened this issue 2 years ago • 4 comments

sometimes the filament can get through the magnetic gate when the selector passes by a block leading to filament to stick out and create jams in the selector path

Possible ways to address this:

  • [ ] electromaget to only open the gate when the selector has arrived at the specific filament block
  • [ ] modify tophat to have 3 servo positions: clamp, unclamp, engage_gear so that the filament would be "clamped" when no servo is pressing on it

I believe that this can be made a non issue by creating just a little friction on the entrance to the gate. Often a short 2mm ID piece of bowden tube is sufficient but it could also be some kind of mild spring clamp that is released when the servo is moved down.

Another ideas could include a second servo to clamp all gates...

another servo and/or electro magnetic switch would be kind of a hassle to add onto existing hardware, especiall in regards to Easy Brd, etc.

i like your idea with a tiny bit of fraction, could simply be done with a small "dimple" in the filament path, or as you said a small piece of 2mm inner Diameter tubing
