Linux Mint 18.1, all up to date, up to date snap and new cncra2yr install. The usual processes start: " drlipps 10191 2.8 0.3 32804 31364 ? Ss 04:09 0:37 /snap/cncra2yr/93/wine-platform/wine-stable/bin/wineserver drlipps 10206 0.0 0.1 1967712 14604 ? Sl 04:09 0:01 C:\windows\system32\winedevice.exe drlipps 10216 0.2 0.3 2192948 25060 ? Problem occurred on a install that had been working for several years. Updated and re-installed hoping it would correct the issue.

Please help me get this working again.

backup game needed files then remove snap with snap remove --purge cncra2yr then retry installing snap again see if that helps.

mmtrt avatar Apr 21 '23 09:04 mmtrt

Have tried that several times. Sometimes the install works smooth, sometimes the dotnet45 portion gets wine errors with invalid file handles. Last iteration there were no errors posted. Same behavior on all installs.

can you send client.log and crashlogs/ from $HOME/snap/cncra2yr/common/.wine/drive_c/Westwood/RA2/Client/ if any.

mmtrt avatar Apr 22 '23 06:04 mmtrt

No crashlogs. client.log contents are in the beginning of the first post. I think the line at the end: "21.04. 04:10:14.150 Hardware info: Video controller info not found | | Total physical memory: 15GB" might be relevant.

drlipps avatar Apr 23 '23 10:04 drlipps

Also, I have tried "snap run cncra2yr.cncra2yrogl", and "snap run cncra2yr.cncra2yrdx" just in case it might make any difference. Same results as above in both cases.

drlipps avatar Apr 24 '23 00:04 drlipps

which gpu you have and drivers, you might be missing i386 drivers I think.

I have no idea why the strikeout text appeared, ignore that - it was an artifact of the copy paste from the command window.

drlipps avatar Apr 25 '23 06:04 drlipps

its probably because of "~" sign.

try installing

sudo apt install libdrm-intel1:i386

mmtrt avatar Apr 25 '23 07:04 mmtrt

It is already there and up to date:

sudo apt install libdrm-intel1:i386 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done libdrm-intel1:i386 is already the newest version (2.4.91-2~16.04.1). 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

can you try again with updating runtime snap snap refresh wine-platform-runtime-core20

mmtrt avatar Apr 25 '23 20:04 mmtrt

Also up to date: snap refresh wine-platform-runtime-core20 snap "wine-platform-runtime-core20" has no updates available

Is there any chance the startup script changed something relative to the display settings inside the mint install for just the wine environment, but not in a place that gets overwritten when one re-installs, and did not (for whatever reason - I saw no failures until it just would not show anything at startup) clean that back up ? All the usual processes start and run along merrily like they think the window is up and I am not using it - I used top to see them switch in and out etc. - the list:

drlipps 15014 2.6 0.2 25372 24108 ? Ss 16:15 0:00 /snap/cncra2yr/93/wine-platform/wine-stable/bin/wineserver drlipps 15029 0.0 0.1 1967712 14252 ? Ss 16:15 0:00 /snap/cncra2yr/93/wine-platform/wine-stable/bin/wineserver

I just have no idea how they render a screeen etc. so I am not sure where to look. Sure appreciate your help !

drlipps avatar Apr 25 '23 21:04 drlipps

Nothing of sort only runtime snap was changed recently.

My bad missed branch flag on refresh command use --beta

mmtrt avatar Apr 25 '23 21:04 mmtrt

Eureka !

Made change to 1280x1024, ts-ddraw (please advise if I should use a different one) Updated the game to 8.33.0 Did not try a match yet, but I see no reason that should be an issue.

If there is anything I can do to help debug or test any changes please let me know.

Thank you so much for making this run on Linux - I have sure appreciated being able to play.

drlipps avatar Apr 26 '23 03:04 drlipps

use your native resolution if its not more than 1080 and cnc-ddraw is used usually if that makes issues than use ts-ddraw

mmtrt avatar Apr 26 '23 05:04 mmtrt

OK everything is working fine now. Thank you very much for your help. Not sure of the protocol here - do I close this or do you ?

drlipps avatar Apr 26 '23 18:04 drlipps

Oh and the offer to test still stands - leave this open if you want me to test anything for you.

drlipps avatar Apr 26 '23 18:04 drlipps

Please see discord "LAN mode create game crashes" - I am wondering if the beta version of the client is causing that or not, and if I can upgrade to the latest snap and still have the problem described here work OK - thoughts ?

drlipps avatar May 23 '23 04:05 drlipps

Can I update to the most recent and still have this fix ?

drlipps avatar Jul 18 '23 01:07 drlipps

which issue fix drivers one that you had or lan one

mmtrt avatar Jul 18 '23 06:07 mmtrt

fix drivers. Some time shortly thereafter, (just a few days/ 1-2 weeks if I recall) the kaboom trying to create a LAN game started. I cannot seem to find a fix for that, but I am not sure that the "fix drivers" caused the create LAN game issue or not... I have been updating the game itself when CNCnet releases new versions. I just have been hesitant to update the snap for fear of re-introducing the problem you fixed for me above. Please advise.

drlipps avatar Jul 19 '23 04:07 drlipps

test build from candidate branch make sure clean install after purge remove snap.
