Dark mode not available

There is no option to enable dark mode even though the website and update video clearly show the UI in dark mode. speechnote

Thanks for reporting this issue.

Sadly, this is unsolved problem. Speech Note'UI is having trouble with Dark themes when used on desktop environments other than KDE Plasma. Under KDE Plasma the Dark theme works flawlessly. The problems start when you use any other DEs. On GNOME Dark theme partially works when "Graphical style" is set to "org.kde.desktop", but "partially" means that some parts of UI are still rendered in Light theme which makes the unreadable :/

I'm not sure what's causing this problem, but I think Flatpak might be playing a role somehow. It looks like other KDE apps on Flathub have similar issues when running under GNOME in Dark theme mode. I suspect that "isolation" provided by Flatpak's sandboxing somehow breaks theming...

As a fallback the Fusion theme is working for me in Fedora 40 but I should play around with Flatseal and see if there isn't a setting that would take care of this…

@atomikaya Thanks for the info. Perhaps I should set "Fusion" as a default for non-KDE desktops.

Hello, just started using it. Dark theme doesn't automatically apply on xfce adwaita-dark through flatpak. Would be nice to have option just to choose and forcefully set the theme mode.

@sequencerr Sorry, I missed your comment. Too many notifications :/

So far I have not done any tests on XFCE. Have you tried enabling Use custom graphic style and checking other graphic styles?

mkiol avatar May 28 '25 18:05 mkiol

It's okay. Yes, I've tried couple, but they just look like different themes, not changing color scheme.

sequencerr avatar May 28 '25 19:05 sequencerr

@sequencerr In theory, the theme should follow the color scheme of the desktop environment. Just try setting dark colors in your system and switch between Graphical styles to see which one uses dark colors.

I don't know if there is a way to switch the user interface to dark without changing the overall system settings. Maybe there is, but I have no idea how to use it.

For me, the org.kde.desktop is the only one which partially changes with the desktop from dark to light. But some parts are unreadable

Fusion is consistently readable and adjusts light/dark theme after an application restart (but not if changed with the app running)

Some others do not change at all with light/dark mode - so the two can be recommended.
