Allow dependencies without values

Dependencies, at the moment, implies that a value is being passed around. While it seems like a convenient idea at the time, it looks like it's causing more pain than anything. It may be a good idea to either change that (and find a different solutions for things such as nocrypto init) or refine the notion of dependency.
