Important idea
Dear Drs. Huh, Cheung, Wang, and Isola, I read your paper "The Platonic Representation Hypothesis" with great interest, particularly given my prior discussions of Platonic forms in AI on llmsys.com. Your work on representational convergence offers valuable insights, and I'd like to suggest two additional implications that may strengthen your hypothesis: First, the holistic nature of neural network optimization appears crucial to understanding Platonic representation. When models minimize error, adjusting one aspect necessarily affects others - creating a natural pressure toward global optimization of all biases simultaneously, rather than local optimization of individual features. Second, this holistic convergence may have profound implications for AI safety. If models naturally evolve toward balanced, globally optimized representations, this suggests that more advanced models may inherently tend toward ethical behavior as part of their optimization process. This could mean that safety concerns should focus more on less developed models that haven't achieved this balance. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss these ideas further. Best regards, Dr. Mikey Bee
