User Story

As a MP Engineer I want to experiment with custom notifications using SNS and AWS ChatBot So that I can add richer detail into the notifications sent in to Slack

Value / Purpose

This ticket would require reviewing this guide https://docs.aws.amazon.com/chatbot/latest/adminguide/custom-notifs.html on creating custom notifications and seeing how this might benefit MP by adding more detail to notifications.

An example could be that we add the application name to alerts based off of the account ID (if that were possible?) or perhaps linking to a MP runbook when a certain alert is raised.

  • [ ] Identify some candidate alerts that could be updated with a richer amount of info (e.g. links to runbooks etc.)
  • [ ] Test sending customised alerts
  • [ ] If appropriate raise a PR to merge in these changes
  • [ ] Demo to the team
