Send2Kindle support

Open savely-krasovsky opened this issue 7 years ago • 13 comments

I know that there is no support for Kindle devices as you sad here #57 and here #203, but can I make Send2Kindle support? We will make AZW3 file from unread items and send it by mail every day for example. It will automatically delivered on kindle in their native format.

I can make prototype realization and send it as PR.

Found it as an example: https://github.com/zhengchun/kindlepush

Sending the sanitized HTML article as attachment to the Kindle email should work? I'm not sure if converting to their native format is really required, HTML is supported: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200767340.

@fguillot 🤔 I will check it, should work.

What if we instead added RSS feed support to miniflux? Kindlepush supports it, and any feedreader could be used to access miniflux...

I'd prefer a theme for Kindle E-Ink devices, something like https://reabble.com

+1 for @helmut72 's idea.

Because with a good e-ink desing you can access it by Tolino/Kobo/whatever, too.

Yes, that would be still a great feature. But if you follow the links in the first posting, it won't be happen: https://github.com/miniflux/miniflux/issues/203#issuecomment-411945927

For reading news in the sunlight and not always reading news twice (any "Send2Kindle" doesn't set news to read or starred), a theme with direct access would be great.

Or better a web-based Fever-Client with the same features like in Reabble: then everyone can choose their favorite News server, because Miniflux, FreshRSS and TT-RSS supports Fever API.

I would pay the same price as my Kindle ($50, once - never ever any subscription) for this kind of Fever client, because this would make my Kindle very useful for me.

Btw, I currently use Instapaper to send my articles to kindle, and it works beautifully. Just go fiddle in Instapaper’s settings.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that it works. Pocket does have the same service and Wallabag probably too. But I'd like to read every news on the Kindle, not only the faves. Reading on E-Ink is better for my eyes.

I think there is software on github to send rss to kindle. I do that myself by combining rsstail and tlrl.

Great thinking, but again: I'd prefer a theme for Kindle E-Ink devices, something like https://reabble.com

For those interested in similar functionality that's a little more pre-baked, Kobo's ereaders have a Pocket client built in that works wonderfully. Since miniflux has that as a built-in option, you can directly save articles to Pocket and they'll show up on the e-reader on next sync.

... or use something like Onyx Boox Nova or Hisense A5 or A7 with FeedMe App. It supports Fever API and there is a setting for E-Ink displays.

Onyx Boox Nova 2 with FeedMe App saved a lot of frustrations last year, that I had the years before: E-Ink is a perfect display for the beach, my media (mostly text with a few pics) is made for that, but my prefered content (RSS-Feeds) couldn't be easily read and also marked as read.
