Is there a way to enable upper line displaying buffers?

Hi. I want to implement behavior similar to mine under vim, where all basic info was below the main frame, like modes, position in file, changes, and above the frame is list of buffers, with separated by color active for this window. Is it possible to do somehow? thx.
