Autocomplete not working

For some reason, the autocomplete feature does not work for me at all. I cannot use it for:

1. code completions
2. directory completions
3. completion for snippets present in buffer.

I might be doing something wrong as I am pretty new to using emacs

yeah I don't use it really so it's probably broken.
