[Site Request] Telegram

This might be a bit of a stretch, but Telegram does have a Web version, so you never know... I'd be interested in downloading all media from a chat (single, group or channel). Also, I'd like to be able to locally backup stuff from my own chats: it would be extra useful.

I don't think this is needed. telegram has it's own tool to export chat's locally already. You can export your chats with just 1 person, group and channels too I believe.

Export chat explained here

@3k2 Could it be that Telegram used to have that feature but it isn't there anymore? Here's what I see in that menu:

@Roccobot Are you sure you have latest version of telegram because I do see the option to export private chats, channels and groups?

I believe channel or group chat owners can disable the option as well..

Maybe it's a Mac thing? I'm using the native macOS Telegram desktop version 8.8.1.232774 Stable (the latest).

Anyway, gallery-dl keeps track of already-downloaded stuff and doesn't re-download by default, so I think it would be better than a simple, 'limited' 'Export chat history' option.

I tested it on my Mac it appears that the one for download in the app store is very limited version compared to Linux/Windows but the one you can install from brew on mac has same features as Linux/Windows as well.. I'm not sure will the export chat option always export everything or check for the stuff you already got.

Actually, I downloaded it from Telegram.org, I didn't need to choose, it was just that version. Which yeah, is the same that is published on the Mac App Store, but with faster updates.

Gallery-dl is more than just a single-use export tool though. It lets you download selectively, curate the downloaded files and keep them up-to-date with the source with little-to-no user input.

Considering lots of Russian and Ukrainian creators have moved to Telegram due to sanctions, I think a Telegram extractor would be helpful.
