We're now working on this feature. It will likely be released in preview in summer.
This feature is being implemented and will be rolled out before year-end. It will be supported only in managed portals.

@NicolasHumann, we plan to fix it in the next few weeks. The fix will roll out with a main API Management service release around March or April.

@wkarratoon, the improvement is included in the just-released portal version 2.10.0. We expect to roll it out to all managed portals within the next 3-4 weeks.
